Backstory
How many people can say that the ocean is their backyard? Right not many. But waking up every morning to smell the sweet ocean air is like heaven to her, no way your day could ever start off bad with that smell being the first thing every morning and not once did she get tired of it and knew she never would. Swimming was the one constant thought on her mind, it was a part of her and ran through her blood.
She knew now of her true family, though she was still hurt that her parents kept part of her own self for so long and that it took her making the worse mistake of her life for the truth to come out, and Melody made sure that her parents never forgot that little bit of information. But the older she got the more she realized they had only done it to protect her, they did it out of love, but even so it hurt her that they could so easily lie to her for so long.
She tried to move past it as best she could but it was always in the back of her mind reminding her about what they did. She didn't want to hold that grudge against them, she loved both her parents with everything in her and it pained her to not fully trust either of them and everytime she got that thought in her head she took to the ocean to clear her mind. The only place in the entire world that could feel completely at home, completely free of everything on her mind that brought her down.
Which is the reason she now spent most of her time in the water, just splashing around or seeing how deep she could swim before needing to transform into her mermaid form, and she tried to not do -that- often, each time she did it only reminded her of what she had done before, the deal she made with Morgana. The deal that still haunts her even all these years later, the decision she is forced to live with every time she needs to go into her the form she felt more herself in.
But of course as it is in life, all good things come at a price. She shouldn't be able to, it's never been something she should be able to do, but because she made the deal with the sea witch years ago she is able to go from her regular human form into the mermaid form she feels more herself in. At will she can lose both her legs and grow out her elegant red fin. All within mere seconds she would leave her worried behind and dive into the deepest, darkest parts of the ocean and just forget it all for as long as she wanted. But with every transformation came the worry, the reminder of what could happen. Everytime she decided to go into her mermaid form she ran the risk of not being able to become human anymore. She'd remain a mermaid forever.
But she didn't care, she knew the risk each time she became a mermaid but it never stopped her. When she got it in her mind that she needed to swim and be free, practically nothing would stop her from going into her backyard and leaving the world behind.
